Florida Space Coast Shore Shots Capture the Bronze

Juniors Capture Bronze at US Tennis Association U14 Advanced Team Tennis National Championships in Arizona October 11-14, 2007.
The Florida Space Coast Shore Shots boys and girls under 14 advanced tennis team captured the United States Tennis Association’s Junior Team Tennis Bronze Medal at the Nationals Championships October 11 to 14, 2007 in Tucson, Arizona. The Shore Shots defeated Massachusetts, Ohio and South Dakota in the first round. They lost by one game to North Carolina 45-44 in the semi final round. They finished the National Championships with a win by defeating Hawaii for the Bronze. Final tournament standings were Utah with the Gold, North Carolina winning Silver , Florida capturing Bronze and Hawaii 4th place. The team is coached by volunteer Gary B. Lane. Team members are: Kaila Cochran (13 yrs. old), Holy Name of Jesus Catholic School, Indialantic; Natalia Janowicz (12 yrs. old), Florida Home School student, Palm Bay; Brandon Lane (13 yrs. old), Hoover Middle School, Indialantic; Brooke Lundberg (14 yrs. old), Lake Highland Preparatory School, Orlando; Chris Ngo (14 yrs. old), Merritt Island High School, Merritt Island; Clay Winkler (14 yrs. old), Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy; and Gabriela Winter (14 yrs. old), Boone High School, Orlando.

The Bronze Medal Florida Space Coast Shore Shots have been invited to play a friendly match in the international arena against Costa Rica in the near future.

This year marks the 2nd year in a row that the Florida Space Coast Shore Shots have made it all the way to the National Championships. Last year, they competed in the intermediate division placing 6th overall. Due to a rule, the Shore Shots were required to move up to the advanced division to continue playing together. With three team members from last year's team, they new team committed to intensified training over the summer. Their hard work and perseverance paid off big when they claimed the Florida Sectional Championship for the 14 and under advanced division! Coach Gary Lane stated, "it has been a year of long hard work and planning. We have great parents, a cohesive chemistry...things are really flowing! This is a wonderful experience for us all."
